Design Crush – Cantilever Chairs

January 27, 2020 2 Comments

Have you ever seriously disliked something, but then with the passage of time you somehow find yourself falling in love with it? Kinda like when you were a kid, you really hated pot roast. But suddenly when you’re an adult you find yourself searching Pinterest for killer pot roast recipes because you’re craving it so badly you’d do anything for a dang POT ROAST?! Well that’s exactly how I feel about cantilever chairs.

Not even three years ago I would’ve ranted on and on about how ugly and outdated I thought these chairs were! Then one day I was scrolling through Instagram when I came upon this photo you see below, and just like that…I developed a design crush for cantilever chairs.

I can’t explain it. I just knew as soon as I saw these vintage beauties I had to have them. If my memory is correct, I gave $75 for this set of four. Imagine my delight when I got them home and found a Chromcraft tag under the seat dated 6/23/80

Somehow I think the orange velour seat works with it, but its horribly dirty and reeks of stale cigarette smoke, so reupholstery is a must. I was in Hobby Lobby the other day and this cheetah fabric screamed at me! I think it’ll be absolutely perfect for my cushions! Wicker, brass, cheetah cantilevers….yes please!

I’ll be sure to come back to share photos of the chairs once they’re finished up! Until then, I wanted to share some cantilever chair photo inspiration with you. Tell me what you think…do you have a design crush too, or no way for you? Also….did you hate pot roast as a kid??

Wow! Love these in every single way possible- ah, let me count the ways! And, yes, I too spotted that same fabric in HL and took a picture! Love the real-feel of the fabric. Can’t wait to see what you do with them!!!! Thanks for the inspiration! I’ll be on the hunt for some too!

Hahaha Yes, I would stuff my cheeks like a chipmunk, and ask to be excused from the table. Then go spit it out…It wasn’t till many years later that my mother informed me that I wasn’t fooling anybody 😹😹😹
