Benjamin Moore’s Hale Navy: Paint Guide

May 22, 2021 1 Comment

Yes, the all-white kitchen is nice and all, but if you want a way to stand out from the crowd and make a statement (while also keeping it classic, look no further than Hale Navy by Benjamin Moore!

In this post, we’ll talk about the undertones of this shade, what it pairs with, and even show some examples of what it looks like in different kitchens.

So you’re looking to paint your cabinets, but not sure what color to go with? There are a lot of options out there, and many people find themselves stuck on this decision.

One option that is worth considering in almost any home is Hale Navy by Benjamin Moore.

This dark blue shade can be paired beautifully with other colors and will give your kitchen an updated look without having to spend a ton of money on new cabinets or appliances!

This shade is appropriately called a navy because that’s what it exactly is. Hale Navy is a rich, dark blue with lots of interesting undertones (we’ll get to more about those in a minute, though!).

As Benjamin Moore itself says, Hale Navy is: “A timeless classic, this deeply saturated shade of navy blue evokes rich maritime traditions and storied exploits at sea.” Sounds exciting, right?

Let’s dive in and learn all about Benjamin Moore Hale Navy and if it’s the right shade for your home.

Where can I use Benjamin Moore Hale Navy?

Everywhere.

No, seriously, you can use this navy paint anywhere!

Of course, you guys can probably guess that I looove it in the kitchen – it’s a gorgeous shade for a painted kitchen cabinet.

Side note: you can see some of my other favorite cabinet paint colors here.

But, don’t stop there!

Hale Navy is perfect for so many other spaces, like mudrooms or the bathroom.

You can (and should!) also use this shade on furniture pieces. I used Hale Navy in my two-toned dresser makeover. Obsessed!!

Hale Navy Undertones

For such a dark shade, Hale Navy has a surprising amount of undertones…and to make it even more complicated, some of them are contradictory too. The colors that make up Hale Navy are blue (of course), but there are also some grey-blue and greenish hints in there as well.

Is Hale Navy a cool or warm color?

Well…it’s both! Hale Navy has both cool and warm undertones, which is why it can be considered neutral – it works in any space!

This shade is appropriate for many color schemes because it can serve as a backdrop or neutralizer when paired with other warmer shades (like reds and yellows). This deep blue gives the other colors more oomph while remaining luxe when paired with cooler shades, such as purples and greens.

What color goes with Benjamin Moore Hale Navy?

Honestly, it’d be easier for me to answer what doesn’t go with this shade because it literally works with almost any other color! Here are a few classic pairings to try:

  • Hale Navy and white. Want a crisp, nautical vibe? Go for the classic navy and white look. I especially love Hale Navy kitchen cabinets with a crisp white Carerra marble on top, and some brass pulls. Lovely!
  • Gray. Gray paint will pull out those similar undertones in Hale Navy. They compliment each other well.
  • Cream and beige. Looking for an easy way to dip your toe into the (Hale Navy) water? Start by pairing it with warm creams, which softens the shade slightly.
  • Brown. It is sometimes hard to find a shade that can pair with brown shades and modernize them a bit while keeping true to those rich tones. Well, this is the color to do it!

Hale Navy also pairs well with colors that have similar undertones like a red or pink-based purple, light blue, and green. If you really want to make your space pop, it also looks great with many shades of orange!

Plus, according to Benjamin Moore itself, Hale Navy also works well with Spring Medow (a lighter green shade), Butterfield (a warm cream), and Hidden Oaks (a taupey brown).

See what I mean about versatile?
