5 Simple Steps to Painting a Brick Fireplace

May 17, 2016 3 Comments

There was an awesome brick fireplace in our previous house that I loved SO much, but it was so dark!!  I’m not kidding when I say it sucked all of the light out of the whole room!  Keep reading to see how to paint a brick fireplace.

There seems to be so much controversy over painting brick.  My stance is, if you don’t like the original brick, PAINT IT!  Yeah, it’s perminant, but so what.

In my opinion it’s permanently better after paint!

If you love your brick, by all means, leave it alone.  I didn’t hesitate for a second deciding to paint this fireplace:)

What You’ll Need For Painting Brick

  • 1 1/4″ nap roller cover
  • 3″ paint brush
  • Loxon Masonary Primer
  • Top coat paint in desired sheen. (I chose to use Sherwin Williams Super Paint Satin in Oyster White for this project.)

I am in the process of painting over the 3rd dark sucks the life out of a room fireplace. It also had dark wood cabinets on either side with hardware from the 70’s and a dark wood and brass ceiling fan. Like you it is all going to be light, bright and beautiful when I am done.
